Scope
Analytical study of the abandoned black coal mining site of 70ha with existing building incl. 20km underground corridors. Architectural study incl. layout development for a new use of the area focused on the circular economy. Strategy for new development incl. external influence (economical, social, infrastructure).
Architectural, economical planning services to find a new use of the abandoned area which could reflect existing infrastructure connectivity.
Approach
Our role was based on the historical knowledge of the industrial site, as majority of buildings were designed by our company in 60 years ago. This fact and archive availabilities were key factors for the successful development of ideas how to use the site, so that it fits to existing regional strategy. There was engaged a lot of our architects creativity and also a lot of analytical data incl. demographic data.
Outcome
We have proposed solutions, which were broadly communicated with the local authorities and our final solution was accepted and now is waiting for the next steps, which will involve ownership changes.
